New Allied Health Degree Available through King College Knoxville

King College will be offering a new Allied Health bachelor’s degree this fall at the School’s Knoxville location at The Village at Harden Valley. 

“We are excited to offer Allied Health as a degree option for the East Tennessee region,” said Mona Salyer, director of recruitment for Graduate & Professional Studies at King College.  “The program is designed for adults and offers a high quality undergraduate degree that combines an allied health program with integrated courses in the liberal arts.  The results are an academically superior experience designed to empower students with excellent business, writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills.” 

The Bachelor of Science in Allied Health (BSAH) focused in management allows students to directly integrate the management knowledge, philosophy, skills, theory, and tools for a successful career in the 21st century.  Students will also be able to integrate their clinical experience in the coursework. 

“Our GPS program is tailored to reduce the challenges facing the adult learner.  Time and access is often a barrier for students to finish their degrees,” Salyer added.  “By offering classes in a convenient location, one night per week, the working adult may obtain their BSAH degree in as little as 16 months and open the door for professional advancement.”

Students interested in the BSAH program must have completed an associate degree in a health related field and be state certified.

The BSAH program at King will enable students with clinical certifications to complete their bachelor’s degree.  Stemming from various health fields such as respiratory therapy, radiology tech support, physical therapy tech support and EMS, graduates are well suited for advancement in the hospitals and agencies where they work.  

BSAH program graduates will be prepared to meet the following competency outcomes:

• Analyze and implement industry standards for quality management and improvement;
• Communicate effectively in oral and written work with all stakeholders in academic, clinical, and practice settings;
• Make competent strategic and ethical decisions in order to exhibit empathy and facilitate alternatives for both patient care and effective management;
• Plan qualitatively and quantitatively for effective leadership in specialties and also to provide timely, efficient, safe, and cost-effective patient-centered care; 
• Apply the servant-leadership model, understand its scriptural foundation, and apply it in a team environment; 
• Improve organizational effectiveness through understanding and motivating people's behavior and demonstrate an awareness as both followers and leaders;
• Apply the socio-technical systems model, balancing efficiency and effectiveness, while accommodating both people and tasks;
• Act locally and think globally;
• Use life-long learning skills.
